MANBROIDERERS THROUGH HISTORY: "BUFFALO BILL"

As we Manbroiderers scroll back through time, searching for inspiration, we should not neglect so-called "fictional" characters. One that springs immediately to mind is that sensitive stitcher from The Silence of the Lambs, Jame Gumb, better known as "Buffalo Bill". His singular dedication to his craft and impressive attention to detail are on par with the greatest fiber artists of all time. His professionalism even extends to his raw materials. Rather than just walking into a store and saying "I'll take 3 yards of that...", Bill hand picks his materials and spends weeks making sure the texture is just right by ensuring that the lotion is rubbed upon the skin, going so far as to threaten a brutal spraying with "the hose" if the aforementioned lotion is improperly applied. Yes, Bill is a maverick Manbroiderer who never got the appreciation he so richly deserved. So, here's to you, Bill. May you finish that dress in heaven where you surely must be living now. (Thanks to my Wifey, Penny Nickels for the inspiration for this article)
